This is the message we heard from the beginning.

Paying homage to the cutting-edge foundations of house music, Chris Lake founded Black Book Records in 2016 with the intent of regaining creative control over his own discography and output. It quickly matured into a tentpole destination for records that push the envelope on house music’s boundaries, while remaining integral to the genre’s heritage.

As the club-fuelled creative powerhouse that it is today

Black Book Records is anchored by its namesake live events that have sold over 300,000 tickets across North America. The running Black Book Records showcases have sold out some of the most heralded venues within the dance music community, including Space Miami, The Brooklyn Mirage, Denver’s Mission Ballroom, and a handful of bespoke, outdoor, one-of-a-kind spaces. Past performances have included kingpins such as Armand Van Helden, Kevin Saunderson, and Dennis Ferrer, among its many legendary special guests over the years.

Taking a discovery-driven stance towards house music, the label prioritizes the artist development of tastemakers within the genre. It has notably propelled the meteoric climb of emerging artists like Cloonee, HoneyLuv, and Mochakk, to name a few. With over 75 original releases and remixes on the imprint to date, the label is home to an arsenal of hits, including record-breaking tracks from Grimes, Four Tet, Chris Lorenzo, Aluna, Chloé Robinson, and more.

The label’s “Black Book IDs' compilation series has featured highly sought-after setlist weapons from emerging and established talent across the industry. The series includes originals and collaborations from icons like Green Velvet, Riva Starr, and Prok & Fitch; while also bolstering momentum behind rising talents like Marco Strous, Hank, TOBEHONEST, and more.

Armed with Lake’s bonafide stature and expertise within the dance music community, Black Book Records’ discography and curation is recognized by the industry as a leading voice within house music. Leveraging taste and innovation as the foundational elements of its brand, the label embodies the heritage of the genre and echoes the spirit of where it all began.
